Position Information
UC Riverside's Auxiliary Facilities Services is recruiting for the Lead Custodian. The full salary range for the Lead Custodian is $25.00 - $28.89 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. ***Please note the realized minimum pay for this position will be $25 an hour.*** This recruitment may be used to fill multiple positions with varying schedules. Positions may include shifts scheduled across all seven days of the week and throughout the day. Specific schedules will be discussed at the time of interview. The Lead Custodian leads, guides and performs a variety of custodial/housekeeping tasks to care, maintain, disinfect, sanitize, and preserve campus facilities. Responsible to clean, dust, strip, wax, sweep, mop, polish, disinfect, sanitize, vacuum, replenish restrooms, and remove refuse/recycling throughout campus facilities, conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, exteriors, etc. May work independently or as part of a team in assigned work areas. Oversees critical day-to-day operations in supervisor's absence; acts as a subject matter expert and provides leadership to custodial/housekeeping staff who perform such tasks. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students. Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in custodial/housekeeping operations with an emphasis in floor care; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Experience in safe use of a wide variety of equipment and machinery common to custodial services including, but not limited to; stripping/buffing machines, vacuums, steam pressure washers, wet/dry shop vacuums, carpet extractors (bonnet, dry, hydro extraction) cleaning machines, raiding flooring cleaning machines, squeegees, brushes, etc.

Experience in safe use of cleaning chemicals, their interactions, danger signs and disposal methods.

- Willingness and ability to work scheduled, unscheduled and emergency overtime.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge in safe and proper procedures when hazardous materials are suspected; knowledge of safe and proper methods to clean up and dispose of biohazards and chemicals such as rodent droppings, vomit, blood, raw sewage or chemicals.
- Ability to read and understand the proper use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations governing areas related to the responsibilities of the job, including SB-198 Illness and Injury Prevention Program (IIPP).
- Knowledge of UCR/UC policies, procedures and systems.
- Knowledge and ability to use desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and other electronic devices.
- Knowledge and skill to use MS Office programs and email.
